My Approach

In my relationship with clients, I offer a warm, respectful and honest interaction in a safe confidential space. I oftentimes combine an integration of the psychological and the theological depending of course on the needs and requests of the individual.  I draw from a range of therapeutic disciplines, such as, person centred, compassion focussed, existential, psychodynamic (with an emphasis on attachment theory) and solution focussed. I have also worked in the area of spiritual formation, with an emphasis on spiritual accompaniment for over a decade. Some of this underpinning knowledge and experience may be integrated, where helpful, in my counselling work with those who hold a Christian faith & worldview.

It is important to note that even though I may not necessarily agree with the underlying philosophies behind some psychological approaches, they often contain invaluable wisdom regarding human development, attachment issues in relationships and conditions required for an effective therapeutic relationship. In essence, the psychological approaches can provide language which is helpful in understanding the human condition and an increase in self

understanding and awareness.
